BLAKE LEWIS TO RELEASE MUSIC VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE “SAD SONG” EXCLUSIVELY ON MYSPACE.COM ON SEPTEMBER 22

Gearing up for the release of his forthcoming sophomore album Heartbreak on Vinyl, American Idol alum and beatboxer/singing sensation Blake Lewis will release the music video for his new single “Sad Song,” exclusively on MySpace.com on September 22nd, it was announced today. Also in support of the new release, due out October 6th via Tommy Boy Entertainment, Lewis will be performing several shows across the country.

The soon-to-be-released music video is shot as a 1940s film-noir style story about the end of a couple’s relationship, highlighted with some 40s-meets-80s style fashion and video editing. The female lead is played by Casey Carlson who was also an American Idol contestant in the recent season 8. Fans, who are members of Lewis’ official website, can see a sneak peak of the video in advance of its debut. LISSIE ‘WHY YOU RUNNIN’ EP OUT NOVEMBER 10TH ON FAT POSSUM RECORDS

Lissie, a young songwriter from Rock Island, IL, will release a new EP, Why You Runnin’, November 10th, 2009 on Fat Possum Records.

Why You Runnin’ is a five-song introduction to Lissie and pivots around her big, achingly raw and evocative voice. The songs range from the hand-clapping, foot-stomping spirited opener “Little Lovin'” to the poignant country cover “Wedding Bells” to the haunting, soulful ’60s pop-esque ballads “Everywhere I Go” and “Here Before”. These tracks were recorded at her current home in Ojai, CA, and at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville, NC, with her friend Bill Reynolds (of Band of Horses, who also produced and plays bass on the songs alongside his bandmate Tyler Ramsey, who guests on guitar for some tracks). The hymn-like “Oh Mississippi” was recorded with Ed Harcourt last fall, when Lissie was far from home in London, England.

lissieFull track listing for Why You Runnin’:
1. Little Lovin’
2. Wedding Bells
3. Oh Mississippi

PAPER + PLASTICK RELEASE FRANK TURNER’S ‘THE FIRST THREE YEARS’

Paper + Plastick Records is proud to announce the release of U.K. anti-folk troubadour FRANK TURNER’s collection of demos, B-sides, live tracks and covers, collectively known as The First Three Years. The vinyl label, which normally includes a digital download of each album, will be releasing this double LP exclusively on wax beginning September 18th, which fans can purchase at www.paperandplastick.com.

Frank Turner is the future of British music,” says P+P founder Vinnie Fiorello, “And I don’t say that lightly. He channels Billy Bragg like he has Billy’s blood running through his own veins. The lyrics, the melodies, and the way he connects with the crowd makes him a contender to be the ONLY British import that matters. I’m honored to be able to release his early songs all packaged up in a fantastic looking double LP. Long Live Frank Turner!”

Turner’s solo career took off overseas after his London-based hardcore band Million Dead broke up in 2005. He recorded these 23 songs between 2005 and 2008, of which most were demos and B-sides that appeared on split releases or compilations in the U.K., but are all available for the first time this side of the pond on The First Three Years. A nod to a Black Flag album in both name and artwork, Three Years… also features Turner’s folky and haunting interpretations of songs from Black Flag and Bad Brains to The Lemonheads, The Postal Service and ABBA. Having released a new album earlier this month, Poetry Of The Deed, this collection comes just in time for fans to catch up on Turner’s earlier work and sing along while he is out on the road this fall currently supporting The Gaslight Anthem.

MIDNIGHT MASSES ABOUT TO RELEASE DEBUT EP

Midnight Masses is an ever-expanding collective of mostly Brooklyn-based artists, led and formed by Autry Fulbright in the wake of his father’s untimely death in 2008. On any given night the band could be a lean ensemble of its core members or an imposing 14-piece collection of string players, organists, and guests pulled from any number of Brooklyn’s finest bands – including Trail of Dead’s Kevin Allen, Jason Reece and Conrad Keely, TV on the Radio’s Gerard Smith and Jaleel Bunton, the bewitching Katie Eastburn, Peter Hale of Here We Go Magic, and more. Midnight Masses is preparing to gather once again for Rapture Ready, I Gazed At The Body, their debut EP, set for release on November 10th via Collect Records.

THE CINEMATICS RETURN WITH ‘LOVE AND TERROR’

When their debut LP A Strange Education hit stores in 2007 via TVT Records, Glasgow’s THE CINEMATICS were poised for superstardom. Having already received accolades from everyone from SPIN to Teen Vogue to The New York Times and toured with the likes of Interpol, The Bravery and We Are Scientists, it seemed that the New Wave-inspired foursome’s next big “break” was just around the corner. Until the unthinkable happened in early 2008 – powerhouse independent label TVT Records filed for bankruptcy.

A lot has happened since then. Original guitarist Ramsay Miller was replaced by Larry Reid, The Cinematics recorded a new album on their own and The Orchard purchased TVT, making it possible for the band’s sophomore masterpiece LOVE AND TERROR to finally see the light of day. The album, dark and brooding yet full of sharp hooks and vocal melodies that would make Ian McCulloch proud, is about young lovers struggling to make their way in a world in meltdown. Singer Scott Rinning describes Love And Terror as “a truly honest record of our times.”

Love And Terror will be available in all stores on October 6th, but in the meantime you can get a taste of it with the title track and video below.
