About Lash’s 6th Annual Toy Drive
Since 2003, Omaha rockabilly musician Larry Dunn has organized a toy drive for the children of the Porcupine District of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. According to the 2000 census, Pine Ridge’s Lakota Sioux community is one of the most poverty stricken communities in the United States. The children of the reservation are desperately in need of some sunshine and cheer, especially during a time of cold, harsh winds and immense desolation like winters on the reservation can be. The majority of gifts for the children are collected at benefit concerts put on by Omaha-area musicians. Every dime raised goes toward buying additional gifts and stockings. www.myspace.com/lashlaruetoydrive

FADER PREMIERES MIDNIGHT MASSES “WALK ON WATER”

“While TV On The Radio remains on hiatus, its members stay fully busy. A couple days ago FADER TV talked to Kyp Malone about his Rain Machine solo project; last Saturday, Tunde Adebimpe hosted the Radio Happy Hour variety show in Manhattan; Dave Sitek is probably producing the next pop masterpiece; and Gerard Smith and Jaleel Bunton both jump on this new song from malleable Brooklyn group Midnight Masses. Smith produced it and Bunton lends his as-yet-unheard spectral vocal chords, and both leave no doubt that TVOTR is much more than its three most visible members. As far as Midnight Masses, this open-armed approach is kind of their whole thing, with appearances from Trail of Dead and Here We Go Magic members a not uncommon facet of both their album and live show. And judging by the results of “Walk On Water,” if anyone else wants to jump in the studio with them it would probably not be a bad thing. If “Walk On Water” suits you, the band’s new EP Rapture Ready, I Gazed At The Body is produced entirely by Gerard Smith and will be out Nov 10th via Collect Records.” – Pete Macia.

FRICTION RELEASES NEW VICTOR! FIX THE SUN RECORD TODAY

Friction Records is pleased to announce that the newest release from Grand Rapids, Michigan’s Victor! Fix The Sun is out today. Person Place Or Thing is the follow-up to the band’s well-received debut, Retractable Claws. The album is available as an LP with a free digital download code. Friction has pressed 500 copies of the 12″ (250 / amber, 250 / maroon).

To grab a copy, go here.

Honing their skills to a sharp razor’s edge, Victor! Fix The Sun has set out to up the ante. The band balances harshness and noise with ever-so-slight shades of melody. With careful attention to detail and the subtle dynamicss, Person Place Or Thing is a striking deviation from the noise rock norm. You can call it hard-nosed math rock or angular post-rock but either way, the band is throwing out huge riffs that echo magnificently over the its powerful vocal assault. Consider yourself confronted.

Listen to My Friend The Guru (free mp3).

Last but not least the band will be playing an LP release show tonight in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the Intersection Front Room. Native, Grown Ups and Bars Of Gold, which feature ex-members of Bear Vs. Shark, are slated to join in on the musical celebration

1997 ‘A FEARLESS HEART’ MUSIC VIDEO PREMIER

1997 has released their visually alluring new music video for the first single, “A Fearless Heart”, from their ethereal new album, Notes From Underground. They filmed the new video on location in Gary, IN at an abandoned Methodist church which is also the same setting that was used in the upcoming Nightmare On Elm Street remake. The melancholy setting was the perfect backdrop for this fascinating and eclectic song. You can check the video out here: http://www.vimeo.com/7030574.
