NEW SIGNING

Allison Moorer signs to Ryko.

Allison Moorer is set to release her Ryko debut, Crows, on February 9th, 2010. Produced by R.S. Field (Buddy Guy, John Mayall) at the House of David Studio in Nashville, TN, the 13-track album is a refined and lyrically honest collection of songs that is a marked stylistic departure from her previous work. It also follows Moorer’s first Grammy Award Nomination for the song “Days Aren’t Long Enough,” a composition she co-wrote with her husband, Steve Earle, for his Grammy Award Winning 2007 album Washington Square Serenade.

INTRODUCING INITIALS

Initials is Fred Mascherino (The Color Fred/Taking Back Sunday), Andy Jackson (Hot Rod Circuit/Death In The Park), Steven Lucarelli (Once Nothing), and Anthony Martone (ex-VersaEmerge).

“With two singer/songwriters in the band, the sky’s the limit with creativity” says Andy of the new band, who together with Fred will be sharing singing duties on this project that they describe as American Rock Revival Music. Adds bassist Steve Lucarelli, “The four of us happened to be looking to join a band at the same time so we’re starting out on the same page. It’s been great seeing happens when we get in a room together. Our goal is to play great songs and hit the road immediately.”

The first batch of songs by Initials (which will be unveiled at their very first show on Wednesday evening) share a thematic thread very close to Fred. Motivated by a series of fires that terrorized his hometown of Coatesville, PA earlier this year (a number of arsonists were finally arrested in the spring but not before setting almost 50 fires), the songs he has written tell a tale of physical and emotional tolls on a couple trying to stay awake at night to protect their home while having to get through regular life during the day. He and Andy will spend the next few months fleshing out the rest of the album which is lated for a 2010 release.

Initials plays their first show at The Note in West Chester, PA tonight.

ESTATE OF SUBLIME LEAD SINGER BRADLEY NOWELL ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING THE USE OF NAME SUBLIME

The Estate of Bradley Nowell, Sublime’s late singer, guitarist and primary songwriter, issued a statement today regarding the use of the band’s name by Sublime bassist Eric Wilson and Sublime drummer Floyd “Bud” Gaugh.

Sublime members Floyd “Bud” Gaugh and Eric Wilson, along with new vocalist Rome Ramirez, who performed with Gaugh and Wilson earlier this year, are scheduled to perform under the name “Sublime” on Saturday, October 24th at Cypress Hill’s 2009 Smokeout Festival. Sublime, with its original members, has not played together since their final performance with Nowell on May 24, 1996. The advertising and promotion of the new group as “Sublime” has been done without the consent of the Estate of the late Bradley Nowell (consisting of widow Troy Nowell, father Jim “Papa” Nowell, and son Jakob Nowell). The Estate intends to take appropriate legal action to protect Brad’s intentions, as well as the legacy and integrity of his body of work.

Nowell’s family released the following statement on the band’s official Web site today:

It was recently announced that Sublime bassist Eric Wilson and Sublime drummer Floyd ‘Bud’ Gaugh are ‘reuniting’ and teaming with singer and guitarist Rome Ramirez in a band they intend to call ‘Sublime.’ Prior to his untimely passing, both Bud and Eric acknowledged that Brad Nowell was the sole owner of the name Sublime. It was Brad’s expressed intention that no one use the name Sublime in any group that did not include him, and Brad even registered the trademark ‘Sublime’ under his own name.

As Brad’s heirs, and with the support of his entire family, we only want to respect his wishes and therefore have not consented to Bud and Eric calling their new project ‘Sublime.’ We have always supported Bud and Eric’s musical endeavors and their desire to continue to play Sublime’s music. We wholeheartedly supported Bud, Eric and the many talented members of the Sublime posse that formed the Long Beach Dub All-Stars, soon after Brad’s death, to honor him through their original recordings, live performances and Sublime music until they disbanded in 2001. But, out of respect for Brad’s wishes, we have always refused to endorse any group performing as ‘Sublime,’ and now with great reluctance feel compelled to take the appropriate legal action to protect Brad’s legacy.

Our hope is that Brad’s ex-bandmates will respect his wishes and find a new name to perform under, so as to enhance the ‘Sublime’ legacy without the confusion and disappointment that many fans have expressed upon seeing the announcement.

Peace and Love to all,
Troy, Jakob & Jim ‘Papa’ Nowell.”

SLEEP BELLUM SONNO RELEASE NEW LP

Sleep Bellum Sonno have returned with a new line-up and an incredible sophomore record that pushes the band into exciting new directions. Judge Us By How We Lived Our Lives Not By How We Made Our Living is available now on 12″ vinyl (500 black). The LP package includes a CD version of the album as well.

Judge Us By How We Lived Our Lives… is an unforgiving piece that props up the dying art form that is the album. While other bands are busy writing songs, Sleep Bellum Sonno have composed an ambitious, conceptual record that not only stretches the limits of the artist, but of the listener as well.

Recorded live, the album tells the tale of twelve characters who all intertwine into one larger story of a husband / father leaving his wife and two sons behind. To say that Judge Us… is a challenging listen might be an understatement. But for those willing to indulge themselves, the riches buried within are plenty. Art imitates life and life is unforgiving. Still, no matter what choices are made there is always hope for redemption.

ATTACK ATTACK! RELEASE STATEMENT

Statement from Andrew Wetzel in Attack Attack! re: Nick Barham’s recent departure from the band:

“Why hello boys and girls!

Thought we’d throw you all a quick little update about what’s currently going on in the AA! lineup. The band and Nick parted ways recently in a mutually agreed non-explosive fashion, which we all believe is the best for both sides. Caleb is going to retire his keys and start screaming in the front of the band. We DO NOT have a new person in our band.

Don’t worry, our music will still be full of Caleb’s programming, keys, and all the good things he concocts. It will just be back-tracked live with the 808 samples and other nonsense on my iPod. Anyways, we’re not gonna stop touring, playing shows, and having a generally wonderful time with all of you.

See you in your town soon!

Love,
Wetzel”
