HARVEY DANGER ANNOUNCES FAREWELL TOUR
As the undeniable cultural momentum of this age finds reminiscence rock bands from Blur and My Bloody Valentine to Creed and Third Eye Blind reuniting for triumphant and remunerative victory lap tours, Seattle’s Harvey Danger is doing what it does best: the exact opposite of what logic and ambition demand.
From an announcement on the band’s website:
After 15 years, three albums, hundreds of shows, and far more twists and turns than we ever imagined possible, we’ve decided to put Harvey Danger to rest. The decision is totally mutual and utterly amicable. Everyone is very proud of the work we’ve done together, but we’ve also come to feel that our collaboration has–in a very positive way–run its course. We’re all eager to try our hands at other projects, musical and otherwise. Of course, putting an end to something we’ve been working on since our early 20s can’t help being accompanied by a soupçon of melancholy. Nonetheless, as the Chambers Brothers remind us, time has come today. Rock bands have life spans, and Harvey Danger’s has been longer and more eventful than even we would have predicted.
Everyone in Harvey Danger is very excited to have a last chance to play together in public, and to bring the band’s energetic and assured live show to the cities that have felt the most like homes away from home for the band over the years. They hope you can make it.

WEISS FAMILY & FRIENDS
Fans of mewithoutYou will get to see another side of the Philly experimental band this fall when the Weiss Family hits the road this August for a tour with Damien Jurado and Psalters. MewithoutYou just completed a sold-out US tour and will be taking to the road with an intimate version of the group, offering audiences an alternate take on their classic songs. Look for a few surprises, friends and additional instrumentalists as well. Joining brothers Aaron on acoustic guitar and Mike Weiss on electric guitar will be Mike’s wife Sarah on keyboards, along with Matt Chapin on trumpet. This is most definitely not an “unplugged” outing; however, the percussion section will be far from the driving rock drums mewithoutYou fans are used to. It is a chance to hear mewithoutYou songs interpreted in a new way as the Weiss Family puts a new twist on their impressive body of work. They’ll also be mixing it up with an eclectic selection of covers, but you’ll have to check out one of these shows to find out what they’ll be!

DREDG AND SALMAN RUSHIE COHEADLINE SPIN BENEFIT FOR HOUSING WORKS
Acclaimed author Salman Rushdie and progressive rock band Dredg will co-headline Liner Notes, an event at Housing Works Bookstore Café on Thursday, October 1, 2009, to explore the cross-pollination of music and literature and raise funds for Housing Works, a New York-based AIDS service organization. The event will be presented by SPIN and its SPIN.com Book Club, and will celebrate the recent release of Dredg’s fourth album, The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion, which was inspired by Rushdie’s essay “Imagine There’s No Heaven: A Letter to the Sixth Billionth Citizen.”

OLD CANES SIGN TO SADDLE CREEK
Saddle Creek has announced the signing of Lawrence, KS-based Old Canes and will release the band’s sophomore album, Feral Harmonic, on October 20, 2009.
Old Canes architect Chris Crisci (also known as half of Appleseed Cast) constructed Feral Harmonic largely alone in his basement studio. He played the majority of the instrumentation himself with additional help from a cast of musician friends contributing various parts, including trumpet, harmophone, cello, and hammer dulcimer, among other instruments. As recording was regularly interrupted by touring, work, other projects, and life in general, production on the album took nearly three and a half years to complete.
